John and I met in 1969 when I was 19 and John was 23. We met at a dance club in Wimbledon I was with two friends, and John and I danced together the last half of the evening. I was hoping I’d meet John there again the following week, but none of my friends were going that night….. so I went along on my own. To my delight he turned up later that night, and again we danced. John offered to take me home. He was with a friend that night and on the way home his friend made the mistake of swearing in front of me. John asked him not to swear while I was in the car. When he swore again John stopped the car and made him get out! We started dating, and after about 6 months, John got down on one knee and proposed, and I said yes! I was keen to get married as soon as possible, but John wanted to wait until we had saved enough money for a deposit on a house. He worked so hard to save the money and after two years we’d done it. My Mum bought me my wedding dress for my 21st birthday and we set the date for September 11th 1971.
